Come to the La Plata Library between March 3 - March 31 to learn about the deadly 1926 La Plata tornado.

Nearly 100 years have passed since the deadliest tornado in Maryland history struck the small town of La Plata, MD. On November 9, 1926, 15 people were killed, 13 of them school children, when a tornado raced across the Potomac River from Virginia, destroying residential homes and farms before slamming into an elementary schoolhouse that stood in its path.

Local historians Tony Puzzilla and Steuart Bowling are in the process of writing a book commemorating this event, and are reaching out to any distant friends or relatives of people affected by the tornado, in hopes of finding additional information.

An informational display will be presented at the La Plata Library, including a handout providing additional guidance detailing how you can contribute to this project.

If you are a distant friend or relative of any of the tornado victims, Anthony Puzzilla and Steuart Bowling would like to hear from you. They can be reached respectively at apuzzilla@aol.com & steuartbowling@outlook.com
