Help us build the collection at the Charles County Public Library Detention Center Library!

Stop by the La Plata Branch parking lot to donate new or gently used paperback books that will provide meaningful reading opportunities for individuals in the Charles County Detention Center.

Please note: We can only accept paperback book donations for the Detention Center Library.

We are especially looking for:

  • Nonfiction DK Big Ideas series titles
  • Nonfiction Eyewitness series titles
  • Popular fiction
  • Urban fiction
  • Inspirational, biographical, self-help, and motivational titles

Add a Little Encouragement!

Have a few extra minutes? Come inside the La Plata Branch and create an encouraging bookmark to go with a donated book! We'll provide bookmark-making supplies so you can decorate a bookmark and write an uplifting message, words of encouragement, or a positive note for someone who will receive one of the donated books. Kids and adults are welcome to participate to  help spread a little encouragement through the community.

Bring your paperback donations to the La Plata Branch parking lot from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Volunteers will collect your books directly from your car. Thank you for helping us build a collection that encourages reading, learning, and personal growth!
