Raising Internet-Safe Teens: What to Know About Online Risks
with the Southern Maryland Human Trafficking Collaborative
Tuesday, November 10
6:00pm - 7:00pm
Empower yourself and your family to better understand how minors fall victim to online predators in this presentation with Cerise Woodard from the Southern Maryland Human Trafficking Collaborative.
Today’s teens are growing up in a digital world where social media, gaming platforms, messaging apps, and online communities are a regular part of daily life. While these spaces create opportunities for connection and creativity, they can also expose young people to hidden risks including online grooming, manipulation, sextortion, and exploitation.
This educational program is designed to help tweens, teens, parents, and caregivers better understand the realities of online safety in today’s world. Through practical information, real-life examples, and open discussion, participants will learn how online exploitation often develops gradually through trust-building and manipulation rather than obvious danger.
Topics will include:
- Recognizing red flags in online interactions
- Understanding common grooming tactics
- Promoting healthy digital boundaries
- Building stronger communication between teens and trusted adult
The presentation is trauma-informed, age-appropriate, and focused on prevention through awareness, education, and early intervention.
Participants will leave with increased awareness, practical safety strategies, and resources to help support safer online experiences for youth and families.
Registration is required. If you have questions, please contact the Waldorf West Branch at 301-645-1395 or email westref@ccplonline.org.
