Abe Ovadia has been hailed by Musicvox Guitars as a "jazz virtuoso" and "one of the most innovative guitarists of our time." His reputation as one of New York City's premier jazz guitarists has been cemented by Times Square NYC, who lauds him as a reliable purveyor of world-class jazz.
Abe holds a bachelor's degree from Berklee College of Music and a master's degree from New York University's prestigious jazz performance program. His dedication to honing his craft and pursuing excellence in his musical pursuits has earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious title of Best Guitarist of 2016, as awarded by Hot House Jazz Magazine.
NEA Jazz Master Todd Barkan has praised Abe's "powerfully lyrical" playing style, which explores the emotional depths of some of the most expansive music of our age. Abe's unique approach to the guitar and his innovative spirit have not gone unnoticed. Jeff Levenson of Warner Bros. Records honored him as a "Promising Artist of the 21st Century" soon after his arrival in New York City in 2009.
As a band leader, Abe's energy is unrelenting, and his focus on exploring new frontiers in music is evident in every performance. He is equally passionate about sharing his love of jazz with the next generation, and has made it a priority to bring America's original art form to public schools and libraries across the United States. Abe is also the adjunct professor of guitar at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Abe's groups are dynamic platforms for his continual musical exploration, as documented in his hit single "Afro Blue." He has collaborated with renowned artists such as Benito Gonzalez, Ari Hoenig, Mark Ferber, Pat Bianchi, Brian Lynch, JD Allen, Rodney Green, and many others. Every concert is marked by a deep intensity that serves the music and nurtures the exploratory spirit of his fellow musicians.
