WHAT IS CHARITY CARE?
That hospital bill for $15,000. It could become $150, or even $0.
More than half of all U.S. hospitals are nonprofits. Nonprofit hospitals must have charity care programs to keep their tax-exempt status. These programs, also called financial assistance, decrease medical bills for low and middle-income patients.
HOW DOES DOLLAR FOR HELP?
Dollar For helps patients check if they are eligible for charity care, prepare and submit applications, and eliminate medical bills. Our services are completely free – no strings attached. Learn what to expect when you get help from Dollar For.
Dollar For is a national nonprofit that helps with hospital bills by making charity care known, easy, and fair. All nonprofit hospitals in the U.S. are federally mandated to offer hospital financial assistance (or charity care), but they are not required to advertise it to patients and often set their own eligibility criteria. Scott Spivey-Provencio, Community Organizer at Dollar For, will talk about how they facilitate the process and help apply for charity care and negotiate with hospitals on a patient's behalf. Through our work, we have crushed over $20 million in hospital bills nationwide!
