More than half of all U.S. hospitals are nonprofits. Nonprofit hospitals must have charity care programs to keep their tax-exempt status. These programs, also called financial assistance, decrease medical bills for low and middle-income patients.

Dollar For is a national nonprofit that helps with hospital bills by making charity care known, easy, and fair. All nonprofit hospitals in the U.S. are federally mandated to offer hospital financial assistance (or charity care), but they are not required to advertise it to patients and often set their own eligibility criteria.
