Celebrate Black History Month with Prince George's County Poet Laureate Emerita, Sistah Joy, and friends.

Join us for a joyful honoring of Black culture through poetry, music, and visual art. Come experience the beauty, creativity, and spirit of Black expression in a celebration for all ages! This event is located at the Oxon Hill library at 6200 Oxon Hill Rd, Oxon Hill, MD 20745.

Sistah Joy – Event Producer, Moderator, and Featured Poet

J. Joy “Sistah Joy” Matthews Alford is the Inaugural Poet Laureate of Prince George’s County, who served from 2018 to 2023.  Currently revising her fourth book, Ordained Work, Sistah Joy is an arts advocate, public speaker, workshop facilitator, and literary activist. She is also the Poet Laureate of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, where she has served as president of the Poetry Ministry for the past 22 years.
