Join us to celebrate Native American Heritage Month with the Accokeek Foundation's presentation of tales from Indigenous American groups!
Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with a special storytelling program presented by the Accokeek Foundation!
Stories have always been an important way to share history, culture, and traditions. During this program, we’ll explore tales from Indigenous American groups, including the Piscataway people, whose ancestral homeland is right here in Southern Maryland. Through these stories, families will gain a deeper appreciation for the richness and diversity of Indigenous cultures and their enduring legacies.
This program is perfect for children and families who are curious about Indigenous traditions and who want to celebrate Native American Heritage Month in a meaningful way.
Registration is not required. If you have questions, please contact the Waldorf West Branch at 301-645-1395 or email westref@ccplonline.org.
About the Presenter: By honoring the park’s river location, the Piscataway people, and the sacredness of this land, the Accokeek Foundation shares with people and communities through nature, agriculture, cultural history, and foodways, the value that this land and soil hold, including evolving stories about different communities’ reliance on it for sustenance. Park visitors experience the interconnectedness of all life as they come to know the historical and cultural significance and regenerative potential of the indigenous landscape that is Piscataway Park.
