Virtual -

Join us for a lecture with Professor Glen Benedict, Chair of the IFC Privacy Subcommittee for the American Library Association, for a discussion on how library privacy impacts the right to read.

The freedom to read is one of our most essential rights, and libraries play a vital role in protecting that freedom. At the heart of this mission is the principle of patron privacy; the assurance that what you choose to borrow, explore, or participate in at the library remains your own business. This protection ensures that every individual can read, learn, and grow without fear of judgment, scrutiny, or outside interference.

Join us for a thought-provoking presentation with Professor Glen Benedict, Chair of the Intellectual Freedom Committee’s Privacy Subcommittee for the American Library Association. Professor Benedict will explore the deep connection between the right to privacy and the freedom to read, shedding light on why privacy is not just a courtesy, but a cornerstone of intellectual freedom. Learn how these rights are protected in libraries, why they matter now more than ever in the digital age, and what challenges and opportunities lie ahead.

Whether you’re a lifelong library supporter, a privacy advocate, or simply curious about your rights as a reader, this program will offer insight into how libraries safeguard both freedom and privacy, and why that protection is essential for an informed and democratic society.

Registration is required and will close one hour before the program. This program will take place on Zoom and the link to the program will be sent by CCPL staff one hour prior to the event.
