What does it really mean to have the freedom to read, learn, and explore ideas without limits? And what happens when that freedom is challenged?

Join us for an engaging talk with Dr. Paul T. Jaeger, professor at the University of Maryland’s College of Information, as we explore why intellectual freedom, the right to access and share ideas, is such an important human right, and why libraries play a key role in protecting it.

We’ll talk about:

  • How censorship threatens not just books, but basic freedoms.
  • The role libraries play in defending your right to read and learn.
  • Simple, practical ways you can support libraries and protect intellectual freedom in your community.

Whether you’re a lifelong library lover or just curious about your rights as a reader, this program will inspire you to see libraries in a new light—and give you tools to stand up for them.

Registration is required and will close one hour before the program. This program will take place on Zoom and the link to the program will be sent by CCPL staff one hour prior to the event.
