Are you struggling to understand or cope with the behaviors of a loved one diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's? As these conditions progress, it can be difficult to make sense of the changes in behavior and communication, leading to frustration and emotional strain for both caregivers and patients. This workshop is designed to help you gain a deeper understanding of dementia and Alzheimer’s, and to provide you with practical strategies to respond to your loved one’s behaviors with compassion and effectiveness.
In this session, we will cover:
- An overview of Alzheimer's and dementia, including the cognitive and physical changes that affect behavior at different stages of the disease
- How to interpret challenging behaviors, such as confusion, aggression, or withdrawal, and understand the underlying causes
- Effective strategies for responding to behaviors, including communication techniques and ways to reduce agitation or distress while promoting comfort and safety
This workshop will equip you with the knowledge and tools to navigate the complexities of caregiving with greater confidence and empathy. By understanding why certain behaviors occur and learning how to respond in a supportive and thoughtful manner, you will be better prepared to manage the challenges of dementia and Alzheimer’s care, improving the quality of life for both you and your loved one.

This program is in partnership with the Charles County Department of Health.
