Celebrate Black History Month with a craft program that will explore the powerful stories behind freedom quilts during the Underground Railroad. Children will learn how quilt patterns may have been used as secret codes to guide enslaved people to freedom, discovering the meaning behind symbols like the Log Cabin, Flying Geese, and Bear’s Paw.
After a brief introduction to the history, participants will design and create their own felt quilt square using colorful materials and unique patterns. This creative activity combines storytelling, art, and history; giving kids a chance to express themselves while honoring a legacy of courage and resilience. All materials provided; no sewing required!
Reccomemded for ages 6-11. Registration is required.
