Come join in intergenerational art and conversation between seniors and schoolchildren! You can talk about what you have in common, what's different, and get your portrait drawn!
Have you ever wondered how childhood today compares to childhood decades ago? Join us for Time Travelers: Portrait Edition, a heartwarming and creative intergenerational program where children and seniors come together to connect, share stories, and make art.
Each participating child (ages 6–11) will be paired with a senior (ages 65+) for a relaxed conversation session guided by thoughtful discussion prompts. While they talk and learn about each other’s experiences, each partner will draw a portrait of the other—capturing both a likeness and a moment of connection.
At the end of the program, participants will have the option to exchange portraits with their partner as a keepsake or contribute their artwork to a special display in the library, celebrating the power of storytelling, empathy, and creativity across generations.
This program is a unique opportunity to bridge age gaps, inspire meaningful conversations, and create lasting memories—one portrait at a time.

Spark! Places of Innovation, a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street (MoMS) program, dives into innovation and invention happening in rural America. In small towns across America, people are creating new products, taking risks, meeting challenges together, and seizing upon exciting opportunities that change local life and sometimes reach far beyond.
Spark! features stories from over 30 rural communities across the nation that reveal the dynamic relationship between place and creativity. Technical, social, cultural, artistic, or a combination of all of these—every innovation is as unique as each community.
Spark! Places of Innovation is part of MoMS, a unique collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, state humanities councils across the nation, and local host organizations. To learn more, visit www.museumonmainstreet.org.
