Join us and local historian and painter Don Zimmer to learn history along the Port Tobacco River.
Come learn about the history of marginalized people of Charles County, including stories of enslaved, Indigenous, and impoverished people living along the Port Tobacco river. This presentation will include local historian and painter Don Zimmer's paintings as a visual reference for the people and events discussed.
About the Presenter: Don Zimmer is a former Air Force member who has been living in the Port Tobacco area for decades. After completing a painting of the legendary Blue Dog in 2010, he began a project dedicated to learning about and painting scenes from the history of the river, especially from the 18th century. He and his wife also have a great interest in the river's current health and ecology and spend time testing the watershed for bacteria. You can find more about him and his art at his website.
Charles County Public Library events are accessible for all. If you have an accessibility request, please contact programs@ccplonline.org three business days prior to the event.
