Kelly Starling Lyons, award-winning children's book author will be presenting "Dream and Do!", which explores, "Lift Every Voice and Sing", the song that became known as the Black National Anthem.

Join CCPL as we celebrate Black History Month, with special programming every Friday night! This week, we have the pleasure of an author visit with Kelly Starling Lyons, award-winning children's book author. She will be presenting "Dream and Do!", a multimedia program, where families will learn how kids passed along "Lift Every Voice and Sing", the song that became known as the Black National Anthem, and the childhood paths that led architect Philip Freelon and ballerina Misty Copeland to realizing their dreams. They will gain insight into the process of turning an idea into a finished book and receive encouragement to dream big and believe they can make their aspirations come true, no matter their age!

Kelly Starling Lyons is a children’s book author whose mission is to transform moments, memories and history into stories of discovery. Her books include chapter book, Eddie’s Ordeal (NEATE); CCBC Choices-honored picture book, One Million Men and Me; Ellen’s Broom, a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor Book, Junior Library Guild and Bank Street Best selection; Tea Cakes for Tosh, a Notable Trade Book in the Field of Social Studies and Phillis Wheatley Book Award winner and Hope’s Gift, the 2013 featured children’s book for North Carolina at the National Book Festival, and on the 2014 IRA/CBC Children’s Choices list.
