Why do some things float while others sink? Let's find out together!
In this interactive program, children will explore the science behind buoyancy through hands-on experimentation and creative play.
Each participant will build their own mini “raft” using provided craft materials, then take a quick nature walk in the grassy area to collect natural items like leaves, twigs, and acorns to incorporate into their design. Once the rafts are complete, we’ll put them to the test—can they float while carrying a small weight?
Through observation and experimentation, kids will explore how design choices impact whether a raft sinks or floats. Could removing something help it stay above water? Would another material work better?
This fun and educational activity builds STEM thinking, encourages creativity, strengthens fine motor skills, and provides plenty of opportunities for teamwork or independent exploration. Most importantly, it’s a great time for young scientists to learn through play!
Come ready to get a little messy, think a little critically, and have a lot of fun!
Recommended for ages 5-9. Registration is required. Families registering multiple children should register each participant separately.
