Enjoy an interactive storytelling session with Renee Spears Emanuel, then celebrate young artists at the Arts Poster Contest reception where heroes come to life through words and art!

Join the Charles County Public Library in collaboration with the Southern Maryland Chain (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, for an exciting and engaging afternoon celebrating storytelling, culture, and creativity!

This family-friendly program will begin with a dynamic and interactive storytelling session led by the renowned Storyteller Renee Spears Emanuel. Renee will captivate audiences with a rich blend of multicultural folktales, tall tales, riddles, and poetry. Her storytelling selections are designed to elevate themes of heroism, community, and character-building, inspiring both young and old to reflect on the power of stories in shaping values and connecting us all.

Audience participation will be at the heart of the experience, as attendees will be invited to engage in call-and-response, answer riddles, and share their own personal stories. This lively, inclusive environment will allow participants to explore the beauty of diverse cultural narratives and contribute to the shared storytelling experience.

Following the storytelling presentation, we will celebrate the winners of the Arts Poster Contest, showcasing the incredible creativity of local youth. The Arts Poster Contest: What a hero looks like to me! is open to 1st-6th grade students in Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s Counties. Submissions are due March 1, 2025. The reception will feature light refreshments and provide an opportunity to view select poster submissions that highlight the talents and artistic expressions of our community's young artists.

Come for the stories, stay for the celebration — and be inspired by the power of community, creativity, and shared experiences!

Registration is required and will close on March 21, 2025. If you have questions, please contact the Programming Department at programs@ccplonline.org
